50 Year Anniversary of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company

The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) commemorates the 50th anniversary of its creation.

Then governor of Puerto Rico, Honorable Luis A. Ferré Aguayo, signs an Executive Order to authorize the first day in office of the newly established Puerto Rico Tourism Development Company, beginning the first of 50 years of hard work for the development of the tourism sector. Don Luis validated the importance of the progress of the tourism industry as one of the pillars for the economic and cultural development of the Island. This vision towards the future and the work done by the PRTC, positioned Puerto Rico as a world-class tourist destination.

The official ceremony was held at Paseo de La Princesa in Old San Juan, the headquarters of the corporation. Present: The last governor of Puerto Rico on that date, Wanda Vazquez Garced; The executive director of the CTPR active on that date, Carla Campos Vidal; Past governors of Puerto Rico; Past executive directors of the CTPR; Employees of the agency; and Representatives of the tourism industry, from private and government.

The 20 year Time Capsule was unveiled and replaced
August 18, 2020
During the event,a time capsule was unveiled in celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the CTPR. It had been buried in front of the main entrance of the PRTC headquarters in the presence of former Governor Ferré together with the then executive director of the CTPR, Luis G. Fortuño. Official documents and historical data of the CTPR, that had been buried in the capsule, were unveiled and a new time capsule was deposited to be unveiled in 25 years.

50 Years of History:  Puerto Rico Tourism Company

This educational exhibition celebrated the trajectory and achievements made by the Puerto Rico tourism sector during five decades and the invaluable role of the PRTC as a key piece of it. The exhibition was in the Miguel A. Domenech Gallery, at the La Princesa headquarters of the public corporation. This art exhibition makes it clear that Puerto Rico has varied attractions that place it as the best destination in the Caribbean and that it is not only distinguished by its beaches and its gastronomy, but also positions itself as a standard in the wide world of art. With the commemoration of the 50 years of the Tourism Company collected in the exhibition, the growth that the Island has experienced in the face of the local and international vision is illustrated.

  • The decentralization of tourism activity
